Spring 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of Austria’s ratification of the UN Disability Rights Convention. A lot has happened in these 10 years, but there is still a lot to do.

We call for ALL disability organisations, their clients and supporters to send a strong signal to the public that loudly and clearly makes our wishes and demands heard.

More than 38 million people in the EU live with disabilities. In Austria, about 1.6 million people between the ages of 16 and 64 live with a disability; About 630,000 people live with a disability that has affected their daily lives in the last 6 months. In addition, 1 million people live with chronic illness.

Accessibility and the removal of barriers are important for many people – from families with small children to people who rely on walking aids and wheelchairs. This is not a topic that concerns only a small minority but one that touches all our lives.

Well-known institutions in Austria such as Caritas, Lebenshilfe, Jugend am Werk and Integration Österreich as well as their clients and supporters want to make a statement against the exclusion of disadvantaged and discriminated groups in our society.

The parade will feature trucks and floats provided by our sponsors, representing our five thematic priorities and with bass-heavy hi-fi equipment and lighting systems. We want to give everyone involved the chance to voice their needs and to make our insistence on the implementation of the UN Disability Rights Declaration publicly visible in the media.
